How a Tuesday pour actually goes

Pour day starts earlier than anyone would guess. By seven the wax is already melting, the jars are lined up in rows of eight, and the wicks are stuck down with a tiny dab of hot glue.

Soy wax is fussy about temperature. Pour too hot and the surface cracks; too cool and it frosts. We aim for a narrow band, check it with two thermometers because one of them lies, and stir the fragrance in slowly so it doesn't whip air into the mix.

Then comes the part nobody sees: waiting. Each jar sits undisturbed for a full day, and afterwards cures for two weeks so the scent can bind to the wax. It is slow, but it is the difference between a candle that smells good in the jar and one that smells good in the room.
